The AHS convention will be offering two optional tours for those that want to come early...a bus tour to Amana Colonies on Wednesday, June 11th and an evening at the Czech and Slovak Museum and Library on Thursday, June 12th.
On Wednesday morning we will board a bus and head off to the Amana Colonies, south of Cedar Rapids. There will be several stops along the way to tour and to shop. There's the Woolen Mills, a Winery, AJ's copper shop, Fern Hill and the "Cottage-in-the Meadow"...which is a Smithsonian National Heritage Garden, owned by Larry and Wilma Rettig. Our lunch will be served 'family style' at the Ox Yoke Inn, that is on the list of the top 1000 places to eat...before you die! You will enjoy the day and be back mid-afternoon!
Our second optional activity... on Thursday evening...will be a dinner and tour at the National Czech and Slovak Museum and Library. This will be an opportunity to sample our Czech Cuisine, or American food...if you desire. You will be able to tour the museum with it's exhibits, browse the gift shop and will be able to observe the art of Czech egg decorating. After dinner you will be able to stroll the Czech Village...then, cross the bridge to visit the New Bohemian Arts and Cultural District. (This will be a drive-yourself tour and we will find a ride for you, if needed.)
